Retaliatory strikes on Iranian tankers

On 5 September 2026, the United States military conducted airstrikes that disabled or destroyed three Iranian oil tankers in the Persian Gulf region. Centcom identified the three oil tankers as assets within a multibillion-dollar shadow fleet utilized by Tehran to circumvent naval blockades and finance the Revolutionary Guards and affiliated regional militant groups. Iranian state media and the Revolutionary Guard-affiliated Tasnim news agency confirmed that a morning strike occurred off the coast of Kharg Island, noting that the incident caused no casualties.

Distribution of strikes across key waterways

The American military strikes were directed at three separate locations across Iran's maritime energy export corridor. One crude oil carrier was permanently disabled off the coast of Kharg Island, located roughly 30 kilometers off the northern Iranian mainland in the Persian Gulf, where nearly all of the country's crude oil exports are processed. A second tanker was permanently disabled farther south near the port city of Jask, situated east of the Strait of Hormuz. In the Gulf of Oman, American forces completely destroyed a third tanker that was carrying no crude oil, after first instructing the crew to evacuate the vessel. Iran's central joint military command, Khatam al-Anbiya, issued a formal warning demanding an immediate end to naval blockades and vessel interdictions. Iranian officials warned that continued operations against Iranian shipping would trigger wider military strikes across the regional theatre.

The American terrorist military is warned that if malicious acts, insecurity, and harassment of Iranian ships as well as the naval blockade of Iran continue, strikes by the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran against American military vessels in the region will be harder than before and could expand.
