AEMET forecasts coastal storms and inland highs up to 35 degrees on 10 September

Central Spain and inland conditions

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) projects a mild temperature rise across the Community of Madrid on Thursday, 10 September 2026, keeping maximum values below 30 degrees Celsius. Highs in the region will fluctuate between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius, with moderate increases in the Sierra mountain range and minimal changes in the south. Skies will remain clear or partly cloudy with intervals of high clouds until mid-afternoon. Low temperatures will fall, reaching 9 degrees Celsius in parts of the Sierra and up to 12 degrees Celsius elsewhere in the region. Winds will blow lightly from the northeast before shifting to variable directions in the second half of the day.

Mediterranean coastal showers and storms

Along the eastern and southeastern Mediterranean coastline, coastal municipalities will experience localized precipitation and thunderstorm risks throughout Thursday. Alicante will begin the day with cloudy skies until 06:00 before clearing, bringing weak rain accumulations of 0.1 liters per square meter at 12:00 and 13:00 alongside a high probability of storms. Maximum temperatures in Alicante will drop to 29 degrees Celsius, while lows will reach 19 degrees Celsius. In nearby Benidorm, scattered showers will deliver 0.3 liters per square meter around 04:00 and 0.1 liters at 18:00, accompanied by morning storms and a peak temperature of 27 degrees Celsius. Further south in Andalusia, Níjar will record 3 liters per square meter of rain around midnight before lighter afternoon showers, alongside daytime highs of 28 degrees Celsius and nighttime lows of 19 degrees Celsius. Almería will also face storm risks, light rainfall of 0.1 liters per square meter at midnight and 14:00, and a maximum temperature of 29 degrees Celsius. To the north, Castellón de la Plana will see clear skies, a daytime high of 28 degrees Celsius, and a drop in overnight lows to 15 degrees Celsius.

Extremadura and southern interior heat

Inland southern and western regions will record the highest temperatures across the country on Thursday. In Andalusia, Córdoba will see clear skies in the early morning and late evening, with maximum temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius and lows settling at 18 degrees Celsius. Extremadura will experience mostly clear conditions, with nighttime minimums dropping slightly and daytime maximums climbing lightly or holding steady. In the province of Badajoz, temperatures will range from an overnight low of 18 degrees Celsius to an afternoon peak of 34 degrees Celsius. Cáceres will see temperatures between 17 and 31 degrees Celsius, accompanied by light to moderate winds shifting from northeast and east toward the north in the afternoon.

Weekend temperature outlook

A progressive warming pattern will affect multiple Spanish regions toward the end of the week. Madrid will exceed 30 degrees Celsius on Friday, reaching 32 degrees Celsius before climbing to 33 degrees Celsius on Saturday and 34 degrees Celsius on Sunday. In Córdoba, temperatures will reach 35 degrees Celsius on Friday, climb above 36 degrees Celsius on Saturday, and touch 38 degrees Celsius on Sunday under continuous clear skies. Coastal areas will see more stable conditions, with Almería forecasting highs above 31 degrees Celsius on Saturday and Alicante maintaining highs of 29 degrees Celsius through Sunday.
