Shakira opens 12-night Madrid residency before 55,000 fans at custom-built stadium

Shakira launched her twelve-concert residency on Friday, 18 September 2026, at the newly constructed Estadio Shakira within the Iberdrola Music complex in the Villaverde district of southern Madrid. The residency represents the Colombian singer's return to the Spanish stage after an eight-year absence following her 2018 El Dorado World Tour. Madrid serves as the exclusive European destination for the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour. Gates opened at 17:00 following a ninety-minute delay, as fan queues reached nearly a kilometre outside the site. Attendance on the opening evening reached between 50,000 and 55,000 spectators, who filled the 40,000-square-metre purpose-built venue.

Macondo Park and festival grounds

Alongside the performance stadium, organizers built a large cultural site named Macondo Park, paying homage to the fictional setting in Gabriel García Márquez's novel One Hundred Years of Solitude. The area, also branded as the EsLatina festival, houses eight pavilions distinguished by individual colours: lilac, purple, red, blue, pink, orange, green, and salmon. The installations feature culinary stalls including an Argentine barbecue, a fashion workshop named El taller alongside an Agatha Ruiz de la Prada showcase, a reading area called La Biblioteca, and a children's section titled Macondito. Visitors also had access to a dedicated museum holding personal memorabilia and dance archives curated by the artist. Prior to the headline performance, Spanish singer-songwriter Guitarricadelafuente performed a musical set beside a giant she-wolf sculpture on an adjacent stage.

Career retrospective and stage production

The two-hour concert encompassed roughly thirty songs spanning thirty-five years of the singer's musical catalog. Shakira opened the musical set with tracks including La fuerte, Girl like me, and Estoy aquí, backed by electronic arrangements and dynamic choreography. Her staging featured multiple wardrobe changes, including a high-neck jumpsuit in lilac and red tones and a sequined lilac mini dress. Shakira alternated between instruments throughout the night, playing electric guitar on Inevitable and Empire, playing drums during Can't remember to forget you, and performing Middle Eastern belly dancing during Sus ojos. The setlist also featured newer compositions including Te felicito, Copa vacía, and Acróstico, which she sang while her children, Milan and Sasha, watched from the audience. Between numbers, she spoke directly to the audience about overcoming personal hardship and referenced Chilean author Isabel Allende.

Economic scale and ticket pricing

The Madrid residency was originally planned in March 2026 as a run of three concerts, but organizers expanded the schedule to twelve dates through 11 October 2026 in response to ticket demand. Standard admission tickets started at 110 euros, while average ticket prices hovered around 120 euros. A VIP section accommodating more than 3,000 attendees was priced at 1,400 euros per ticket. Over the course of the full twelve-date run, total attendance is projected to reach approximately 600,000 people, generating an estimated economic impact of 150 million euros for the capital. The opening concert concluded with Shakira and the audience singing her collaboration with Argentine producer Bizarrap as stage cannons scattered replica banknotes over the front rows.
