Daytime maximum temperatures across these western regions will range between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius throughout the six-hour period. The highest values are forecast to concentrate in the Western Plain, where localized heatwave conditions are expected during the hottest afternoon hours. Forecasters noted that these readings reflect an unusual early-autumn warming trend affecting the entire western half of the country.

The state weather authority issued an official bulletin detailing the geographic coverage and regional temperature thresholds.

Wednesday (9 September) in Banat, Crisana, Maramures, western Transylvania and south-western Oltenia there will be particularly high temperatures and isolated heatwave conditions. Maximum temperatures will range between 30 and 35 degrees, with the highest values in the Western Plain.

County breakdown and shifting alert zone

A total of twelve administrative counties fall under the Yellow Code warning during Wednesday afternoon. The targeted jurisdictions comprise Satu Mare, Maramures, Salaj, Cluj, Bihor, Alba, Hunedoara, Arad, Timis, Caras-Severin, Mehedinti, and Dolj. Residents across these areas face elevated thermal conditions throughout the 12:00 to 18:00 operational window. The alert encompasses extensive lowland sectors near the western frontier as well as lower-elevation valleys in western Transylvania and south-western Oltenia.

The alert footprint will contract on Thursday, 10 September 2026, shifting toward south-western Romania while northern regions exit the warning system. The National Meteorological Administration established a renewed Yellow Code for southern Banat, south-western Oltenia, and south-western Transylvania, valid again between 12:00 and 18:00. The reduced warning zone covers six counties, consisting of Sibiu, Alba, Hunedoara, Caras-Severin, Mehedinti, and Dolj. Maximum temperatures across this six-county area will reach between 30 and 34 degrees Celsius, extending the late-summer warmth across southern valleys.

Temperature trajectory and Bucharest conditions

The weather agency released explicit operational guidance for the second consecutive day of elevated warmth in the southern and western regions.

Thursday (10 September) in southern Banat, south-western Oltenia and south-western Transylvania there will be particularly high temperatures. Maximum temperatures will range between 30 and 34 degrees.

In Bucharest, warm and stable atmospheric conditions will persist over the two-day period without prompting any meteorological alerts. Wednesday will bring maximum temperatures of 30 to 31 degrees Celsius in the capital, under mostly clear skies with light to moderate wind. Overnight temperatures between Wednesday and Thursday will drop to minimum readings of 12 to 15 degrees Celsius. On Thursday, daytime highs in Bucharest are projected to climb slightly to 31 to 32 degrees Celsius, maintaining predominantly sunny skies and light breezes through the evening. The National Meteorological Administration confirmed that no information notices, weather advisories, or warning messages apply to the Bucharest municipality during the 12:00 to 18:00 periods on either 9 September or 10 September.
