Olympiacos thrash Kalamata 5-0 as Zota Silva scores a hat-trick in Super League

A convincing home win

Olympiacos beat Kalamata 5-0 at the Karaiskakis Stadium in Faliro on 25 October, in the eighth round of the Stoiximan Super League. Zota Silva scored three goals, which To Vima described as the first hat-trick of his career. Marius Mouantilamtzi and Lion Bailey also found the net, and Bailey made his debut for the club according to iefimerida. The win moves the Piraeus side provisionally to the top of the table, with one more match played than Panathinaikos and AEK.

How the first half unfolded

Olympiacos, who lined up in a 4-2-3-1 under coach Imanol Alguacil, started on the front foot and produced the first real chances. Zota Silva missed a clear opportunity around the 16th minute, and Kalamata, who fielded a 4-3-3, had their own attempts with Vargas testing the home defence. The breakthrough came in the 37th minute, when Zota Silva rose to meet a cross from Rocha and headed past Vasilievitch. Shortly afterwards Zota Silva struck from outside the box to make it 2-0, a goal that came two to three minutes after the opener depending on which report is read.

Second half and the late goals

The home side kept control after the interval, and Zota Silva completed his hat-trick early in the second half with a close-range finish that made it 3-0. Kalamata thought they had pulled one back at 64 minutes through Vargas, but the goal was ruled out after a VAR check for offside against Strungis, who was judged to be interfering with play. Olympiacos made the most of their control in the 74th minute, when Pentersen crossed from the right and Mouantilamtzi scored from close range, his first goal wearing the Olympiacos shirt. Bailey added the fifth with an individual run past the Kalamata defence and a powerful finish.

Table and form

The result extends a winning run that To Vima put at seven consecutive victories in all competitions, while iefimerida counted seven straight wins in Greece and Europe. Olympiacos finished the round provisionally top of the Super League table. The sources give no details of their next fixture, so none is set out here.
