Mother and son found dead at home in Ururi, Molise, in suspected murder-suicide

The discovery

Neighbours alerted emergency services on the morning of Sunday, 25 October, after noticing no movement at a house on via Marina in Ururi, a village in the province of Campobasso in Molise. Firefighters forced the front door and found the bodies of a woman and her son, around 10 a.m. Carabinieri and firefighters are working at the scene, and the magistrate on duty at the Larino prosecutor's office is verifying the working hypothesis.

Ages and timing

The reports do not agree on the ages of the two people. Two outlets give 85 for the woman and 58 for her son, while ANSA gives 92 and 60. ANSA also said the deaths may have occurred several days earlier. The exact time of death has yet to be established. Neighbours described the mother and son as living very private lives.

Suspected murder-suicide

Investigators are examining a suspected murder-suicide. A preliminary reconstruction, which still needs to be confirmed, indicates that the 58-year-old son strangled his mother and then took his own life. Carabinieri started immediate investigative checks to establish exactly what happened. The mayor of the town was also on site.
