Kilian Feldbausch claims first ATP main-draw win in Kitzbühel as Stanislas Wawrinka exits early in Estoril

Feldbausch's milestone in Kitzbühel

Kilian Feldbausch secured his first ATP Tour main-draw victory on Tuesday at the Generali Open in Kitzbühel. The 20-year-old Swiss qualifier, ranked No. 284, defeated world No. 63 Adolfo Vallejo (referred to as Daniel Vallejo by RTS) 7-6(2), 6-1 in one hour and 45 minutes. Feldbausch saved 9 of the 10 break points he faced and converted 3 of his 8 break chances, dominating the tie-break and the second set.

Feldbausch entered the main draw through two qualifying wins and did not drop a set across his three matches in Kitzbühel. His ATP main-draw debut had come just a week earlier in Gstaad, where he received a wildcard and lost in the first round. The victory is expected to lift him roughly 30 places in the rankings. The Geneva native is the son of former world No. 34 Cathy Caverzasio.

In the second round, Feldbausch will face Peru's Ignacio Buse, the world No. 35 and winner of the ATP 500 event in Hamburg before Roland Garros. That match is scheduled for Wednesday at 12:10.

Wawrinka's farewell tour continues

Stanislas Wawrinka, the 41-year-old three-time Grand Slam champion, suffered another first-round exit at the Estoril Open in Portugal. The Swiss veteran, currently ranked No. 118, lost to Argentina's Román Andrés Burruchaga (ATP 60) 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. It was Wawrinka's third consecutive opening-round defeat, following losses at Wimbledon and Gstaad, as his farewell tour progresses.

Stricker advances in Zug

At the Zug Open, a Challenger event, Dominic Stricker also moved into the second round. The 23-year-old Swiss, ranked No. 357, beat Italy's Francesco Passaro (ATP 200) 6-7(5), 6-1, 7-6(4).
