Apple unveils HomeView smart display with Siri AI, on sale 13 November

The 7-inch device recognizes up to six people by face and runs Siri AI. Preorders opened on 14 October and sales start 13 November, but Adnkronos reports it is not sold in Italy or Europe.

What Apple announced

Apple unveiled HomeView on Tuesday, 13 October, at a New York press event, calling it its first smart display. A 7-inch Liquid Retina touchscreen sits on a base speaker through a stainless steel hinge that tilts the screen. Apple also introduced an updated HomePod mini 2, Apple TV 4K and a Home Collection of smart-home products, including an outdoor security camera, a smart thermostat and a video doorbell, made with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. A wall-mounted version uses three brackets from Schneider Home.

Design, recognition and price

The aluminum frame comes in silver, galaxy, pink and sidereal grey. Brightness runs from 500 to 0.3 nits, and the interface shows more or less information depending on the viewer's distance. HomeView recognizes up to six people by face and gives each a personal Home screen with its own apps and widgets, while shared albums and music stay open to everyone present. Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, said the device is designed to be shared by the whole family yet personal for each user. Prices vary by source: the New York Times gives $300, The Verge reports $289.99 at Amazon after a $10 discount on the gray and starlight versions, and 9to5Mac cites $289 for select preorder models.

Siri AI and the apps

HomeView runs on Siri AI, a new version of the assistant built on the next generation of Apple Intelligence, which Apple says offers more natural conversation and understands on-screen content. Paired with a compatible iPhone or iPad, it can draw on Calendar and Messages data and act across apps. Without a compatible device, users still get general knowledge, conversation and music search. The device has no App Store, but MacRumors counts 15 built-in Apple apps, from Alarms to World Clock. According to WIRED, some CarPlay apps from a paired iPhone also run on it, including Audiobooks, Apple Music Classical, Apple News, Apple TV and third-party apps such as Spotify.

Third-party apps and widgets

Apple's updated developer agreement, as 9to5Mac quotes it, allows iOS app widgets on CarPlay and HomeView, leaving developers to decide whether each widget works on the device. Since any iOS app can offer CarPlay widgets, 9to5Mac says the pool reaching HomeView is far wider than audio and video apps alone. For video, an updated CarPlay Developer Guide says CarPlay audio and video apps work on HomeView without changes. Most automakers have not enabled CarPlay video, so developers had little reason to build for it. 9to5Mac says YouTube, Netflix and Disney+ could appear on HomeView by adding CarPlay support, while calling that an expectation rather than a confirmed plan.

Timing and development

Preorders opened on 14 October, and HomeView goes on sale on Friday, 13 November. Adnkronos reports it is not sold in Italy or elsewhere in Europe. The New York Times says full reviews will follow as soon as possible, and The Verge expects one in November. MacRumors reports, based on an FCC document found by contributor Aaron Perris, that HomeView underwent regulatory testing in October 2024, running what is now known as software version 18. Apple previewed the more capable Siri at WWDC 2024, but in March 2025 said it needed more time, and Siri AI launched in September 2026. MacRumors calls the document the clearest evidence yet that the delay in Siri AI held HomeView back.
